I love this film don't, get me wrong, but certain things always irk me each time I watch it. One thing that's particularly annoyed me this morning is the fact that NO ONE- not even the doctor - tells Satine she's dying. WTF? Isn't he supposed to have taken an oath or something? Does he have any morals? IS HE EVEN A REAL DOCTOR?
Zidler tells Marie... sorry we just need to all laugh at this guys Zidler costume for a second:
... The real Zidler, tells Marie (presumably Marie is some sort of mother to the courtesans?)
"She mustn't know Marie, the show must go on."
SHE'S DYING- How on earth does he expect the show to go on, regardless of whether she's told about her imminent death or not, when she's DEAD? Futhermore- if "The show must go on" then shouldn't Zidler be using this time to recruit a new actress to play Satine's role in the play? Unless of course he's planning to go 'Weekend at Bernie's' on the whole production?
Irregardless- why wasn't Satine told so she could spend her final few days in peace and not rehearsing for this shabby excuse of a musical? Why is Zidler still insisting on pimping out a dying woman to the duke so that he can bring money into the Moulin Rouge? The mind boggles.
In conclusion- I don't think that man was even a real doctor. Bohemian Paris seem shady as anything.
